Case type: Wrongful death — surviving spouse and minor children
Production type: Life After Loss® Settlement Documentary
Jurisdiction: State court, Southeast
A plaintiff firm handling a wrongful death case arising from a commercial vehicle collision retained Colton Legal Media to document the impact of the loss on a surviving spouse and three minor children. The liability picture was strong. The challenge was translating an undeniable human tragedy into a format that insurance decision-makers and defense counsel would genuinely absorb.
Andrew Colton traveled to the family’s home and spent time with the surviving spouse and children over the course of a production day. The Life After Loss® documentary that resulted structured the story in four movements: who the decedent was before the accident, what happened on the day of the collision, what the immediate aftermath looked like for the family, and what daily life looks like now — one year later.
The documentary was presented to defense counsel prior to mediation. The case resolved before the mediation session concluded.
What this production type is designed to do: Give a wrongful death case a human voice that a demand letter cannot provide. Defense counsel and insurance adjusters process files. A Life After Loss® documentary makes it impossible to process a family as a file.
